LivHome expands on East Coast
Washington Business Journal
By Tierney Plumb
October 21, 2008

LivHome Inc. has bought the assets of AllianceCare's private duty businesses in five states on the East Coast.

This is the biggest acquisition to date and the third since the beginning of the year for the Los Angeles-based provider of at-home care for seniors.

AllianceCare, a Boynton Beach, Fla.-based post-acute care provider, sold its offices in Arlington, Silver Spring, Atlanta, Boston and Philadelphia as part of the transaction.

Financial terms were not disclosed.

Because the Arlington and Silver Spring locations are licensed operations, closing is subject to a license transfer that takes between 30 and 45 days.

In May 2007 AllianceCare bought what was the home care division of Sunrise Senior Living, bringing 1,400 employees and the private duty product line to AllianceCare.

For the first three to six months the company will be known as "LivHome, formerly AllianceCare" and then after six months re-brand to carry the LivHome name.

Mike Nicholson, chief executive of LivHome, said his nine-year-old company plans to add employees to both locations in the D.C. area.

Prior to the acquisition, the company had 22 locations in 10 major markets between the West Coast and central part of the U.S.

"We didn't want to get in just one East Coast location. We wanted to make sure we could provide resources to build around it," said Nicholson.

Since early last year, he's acquired seven companies.

"We search out companies to see if they want to sell to us and tuck that business into our existing business. Over the next 6 to 12 months we will be looking for other opportunities in the area for well-run companies with the type of clients we look for," said Nicholson.

In June, the company acquired Continual Feast Companion Care in Minneapolis, and earlier in the year purchased Long Beach, Calif.-based AngelCare Services.

In 2007, the company acquired Jackson Care Management in Houston, Chicagoland Caregivers in Chicago, Heritage Homecare Services in Riverside, Calif., and Care at Home in Walnut Creek, Calif.
